I always have these “getting ready” pictures at the horse shows, since that’s the quiet moment, after the warmup and just before the test, when everyone is still. David’s reading the test, Karin’s wiping Casey’s face, and that’s Diane Child standing nearby, waiting and wishing good luck. Not pictured is Larry, who is standing not too far off, holding Winston who is most likely nibbling whatever grass he can find. They’re all just waiting for the rider ahead of David to finish, after which he can go in the arena and trot around a little before the judge blows the whistle and they go down the center line. I’m standing nearby with a water bottle for David, admiring the shiny braid I did for Casey and waiting for the cue to go and start videotaping the ride. Horse shows are such fun!
